Owen Sound: The Community View Photographs from 1866 to 1957

Owen Sound: The Community View brings the past into the present and preserves it for the future. When Owen Sounders were asked to search their attics and basements for early images of this city, they responded with hundreds of fascinating and unusual photographs. Their pictures document not only the growth of a bustling harbour town, they also demonstrate the changes in cameras and photography.

Author Richard Thomas has selected the images in this book based on what we know about the stories they tell. Photographer Rob Cotton has composed a detail essay on the history of photography which explains why many of the old photographs look the way they do.
